Buick is no surprise but you'll see that the 'Vette and POS Camaro tend to sit around the lot quite a bit.

"It's no secret that U.S. consumers prefer SUVs and trucks nowadays, and that means car sales are sliding. That's forcing automakers to offer big discounts to sell them. Car sales fell to just 36 percent of U.S. auto sales last month, a record low for a January. Generally, discounts are bigger on cars with the highest inventory. Here are the top 10 cars with the biggest stockpiles, measured by the number of days the inventory could meet demand at the current sales rate" - From Fox News - http://www.foxnews.c...-for-deals.html

Brand Vehicle               Days' supply
Buick Lacrosse                       330
Buick Cascada                       298
Chevrolet Corvette                 267
Volkswagen CC                      259
Chevrolet Camaro                  236
Buick Verano                           234
Mitsubishi Mirage                    231
Acura ILX                                 227
Chrysler 200                            225
Buick Regal                              222

When we bought our LaCrosse over a year ago now we did get a lot of money off on it, knew dealer wanted to move the car. But that's what I decided on for everyday driver. It cost the franchises considerable money they have to pay each month to manuf. on inventory, so if they have a lot of cars (wife used to work at Ford, told me)?

By the list could Buick be going the way of Pontiac and Olds, maybe downsizing for sure. What are all the old people going to drive around in then? Maybe a Cadillac lol......

Wow, this is not a good list to be on let alone dominate.

But we have to remember that Buick is the number 1 selling Import in China with over 1 Million units sold annually. GM has to build most of what they sell in China, in China so its no real benefit to the American worker.

Having a high day supply of inventory hurts US factory production which necessitates closing shifts and ultimately plant shut downs. As far as cost of on ground dealer inventory? That is on the Dealership as they pay a daily finance rate for each unit on their lots to their floor plan source provider. Manufacturers are paid for each unit within 3 days of shipment to the Dealership. Chase JP Morgan is one of the largest Dealership floor plan providers.

302 Hi Pro

I did not know that. Thanks for the insight Dave. Do any of the manufacturer's allow for stock rotation or is that done mostly from dealer to dealer?

Can't say these days of coarse, believe it must be as stated by 302HP. But years back the Ford dealerships would get new cars on consignment on a leasing or rental basis (believe the daily rate applied as O2HP mentions) with monthly liens paid to Ford directly (wife would mail them check).

Don't believe Ford even had their direct purchase credit line for car financing yet and you had the conventional think up to a 3 year local bank loan to contend with. But cars only cost maybe $3 or 4K, these days it's up to 7 years for finance on a new car (haven't financed in awhile)?

Understand at least in ME, dealers will get cars from other dealers pending on a sale if it's what their customer is seeking, must do that all over as a standard. The money is made on used car sales, not so much new car and we all know charging retail and beyond...... Greedy little B - - t - rds.

What about leasing? No such thing was even in the worst nightmares. They're not any better to buy than a typical trade-in. Probably worse as the leasee knows the car doesn't belong to them, be trading soon for another lease and in a pretty good position to ignore and/or cover up any vehicle flaws. They just go get another car and the dealer makes money selling off their turn in as a used car.

Leasing and renting, there's no end in sight to all that money going down the drain and nothing to show but a bunch of receipts. Life continues on......
