This Thanksgiving has a very special meaning to our family. My wifes mom was diagnosed a year ago with Alzheimers and still lives alone in CT. Her condition is changing (for the worst) at a speedy pace.
Gina and I are driving up to CT. from NJ. today to spend the holiday with mom, with the expectation that its very possible this may be the last major holiday period that she remembers us all.
If any of you have ever had a friend or loved one afflicted with this horrible disease, you know full well what we are dealing with. If not, I dont wish you to EVER witness it!! This disease is harder on the family than the individual stricken with it, primarily because at some point they dont even realize theres anything wrong with them and they might live for years with otherwise healthy organs. That leaves the family struggling to make like agreed upon decisions for them, that dont always match up. It is INCREDIBLY stressful and VERY sad.
All this said, I am NOT looking for sympathy with my post, but moreover wanted to offer my most sincere Thanksgiving wishes to each and everyone of you, and remind you to hug each other and tell one another that you love them and remember that thanks giving is what this day is all about. Give thanks for not only your health, but for the people that love and care about you.
